Dear Friends,

I am trying to model plastic hinges at the two ends of beams and columns in a steel frame in ANSYS. I am using BEAM23, a 2D plastic beam element, for the beam and column members. Please let me know how is it possible to model the plastic hinges?

Thanks.

What do you mean by modeling a plastic hinge? It seems that a plastic hinge occurs when the section has yielded through. In which case it can not support any load. What do you really want to do?

Time is an illusion. Now is the only thing there is.

like gurmeet said, do you want to understand the position of plastic hinge of a beam? or do you mean a hinge boundry condition at the end of beam?

you need to include a multi-linear or bi-linear or similar curve for your material and you will see plastic hinges form by contour plotting the results over the yield value!
