Hi all,

I want to model the following in Abaqus (just the reinforcement for the rubber hose) :

Reinforcement that I want to model :

I want to do this in order to identify the value of the force at the contact region of the thread knots.

What I want to calculate (for example):

I am confused as to what is the best way to model these thread reinforcement structure. These are very thin, membrane like structures. I would want to also change the angle (make them more inclined) and perform simulations and identify the force at the contact under tension.

For modeling you have multiple options: If the structure is hollow, then you could use membrane or shell elements. Otherwise solids, beams or truss elements - depending on the shape, behavior and computational effort you want to spend.

I could imagine that you model one row of these structure an then use the pattern option in the Assembly-module in Abaqus/CAE. Maybe Python scripting is an additional option to automate the creation process.

Regarding analysis: when using Explicit and general contact it would be easy to have all the contacts included. I've seen analysis like that done for steel meshes that protect roads from falling rocks in the mountains.
