Hi All,

New to the forum and new to stormwater modelling using computer programs.

I'm currently looking to train myself up on various computer modelling techniques and have chosen EPA SWMM after being referred to the program from a staff member of Water Technology.

My question today is, I'm trying to incorporate on site detention into my model for each lot. The catchment I am modelling at the moment is a small 8 lot subdivision 3.4 ha in size. However, I am unsure on how to incorporate it in.

The on site retention limits the outflow to a specific flow (17.6l/s i believe for 5y ARI) and has a specific capacity. How can I introduce this into EPA SWMM 5.0? The storage unit in the system seems to be orientated towards more retardation basins rather than smaller on site detention systems.

I would like to model the catchment not only for 5y ARI's but greater and see how these reaction. The general setup would be Subcatchment>On Site Detention>Piped Network>Outlet

Thoughts are appreciated.

P.S Any other free software that you believe is useful is appreciated as well as tutorials for EPA SWMM.
