I have a shrinkwrap file of an axle which i need to make longer. Is there any way of stretching shrinkwrap files or do you need to have the original 3D file in order to make the modifications?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I do not think you can directly make the modifications to the file, there is no parametric information to change. In the case of the axle you have you might try to copy the surfaces, pattern or otherwise repeat the surfaces the distance you with to increase the length, then cut the solid at some point along the shaft where the profile is constant. Create a fill surface on the cut plane and merge it into the copied surface and solidify it the get the new length.

You need the original parametric geometry.

If you can't get the original data, perhaps find someone with a feature recognition tool? Solidworks had a great one, but I haven't seen if Pro-E has one available. If they do its probably an add-on. Haven't had the need.

PTC does not have any tools to do this without the original model.
Siemens NX6 can do it as can Soildedge.
