Moisture in Switchgear

Hi Everyone

We are facing a problem of moisture occurance in 33kV air insulated switchgear in the cable compartment.Is it ok to leave silica gel bag in the compartment to absorb moisture.

Condensation/moisture forming in cable compartment is not O.K. It may lead to ground faults. Is the SWGR room air conditioned / ventilated ? We experienced the similar problem.
Causes for moisture if it is a air conditioned room:
1. Air leaks from control cables entry- Arrest with foam seals
2. Negative pressure in the room - Adjust air return dampers.

Silica gel is not a solution for high moisture codensation. Instead space heaters are more preferrable. But I haven't seen any space heater in cable compartments of MV/HV switchgear.

silica gel would only work in a totally sealed environment. Like you toss one into a bag before sealing it. Not good for solving an environment problem.[flush]
