I have an old brass steam whistle with the top (locking) acorn nut missing. This thing must have been special built by someone with screw cutting lathe. As near as I can determine the threads are 7/16 x 18. I can not find any currently made nuts and or taps with these threads. Is there a material that I can use to mold new threads into an available nut? Something that will use a release agent on the threads that will just unscrew once it has set up. Is there an epoxy product made especially for this purpose? I hope I am in the right forum to get a response.
