Hi!

I'm a new user of "MOLDWIZARD", a plastic mold design software bundled in our newly upgraded UG18.

In designing multi-cavity mold, moldwizard default is to
create first 1 part in 1 work piece, then upon specifying desired number of cavities, the software automatically mutiplies the orignally created 1 part/work piece and thus creating multiple cavities with individual inserts. This feature is good if I want individual insert per cavity. But what if I want mutiple cavity in one block? Is the software capable of doing so? How?

Regards and Thanks in advance...

Hi edstrident,

Thank you for the suggestion... I have just tried Family Mold method but the result was the same, i.e., each part(product) has its own workpiece(insert). I even tried to unite each insert but it didnt worked. As far as I know, Family Mold method is intended for 2 or more DIFFERENT products all in one mold but still with individual inserts. What I want to create is 8 identical products in ONE single block(insert) in a mold....

Hoping for an additional suggestions/ideas...regards.

First, I am sorry for my english, but I am spanish speaker.
To solve your problem, the thing you can do is create another part, link the inserts-solids into it and unite them, creating and unique insert. I am sure that any MW function could not run properly, like gate, runner, cooling and so on, but you can do the unite at the end of your work, like the last feature.
I hope this help you

Muchas gratias mi amigo! Actually what I'm doing now might be semilar to your suggestion... First I create the model of the original product, have it copied (using instance) to the required number of cavities, create runner and gates (thru modeling) and then unite them all to create one model.
With 2 or more products united to each other thru runner and gates, I can already create single work piece with mutiple identical cavities. I'm just wondering if there are still some other shortcuts/easy way to attain such ojective... Thanks anyway for joining this forum, REGARDS!!!

The suggestion of creating a new piece, and wave linking the instances into it to create the single work peice, multi cavities, is the best method - be sure to make use of the "empty" reperence set after you have linked the bodies, to aviod performing operations on the original cavity components. I believe there is an option to create freeform runners, that will work on such a cavity, just use manual linking and subtraction features to remove the runner/cooler bodies.
