Looking at a primary heating system: A control statement, monitoring the run status of the boiler , will enable the lead hot water circulation pump. My question is, what physical instrument on location monitors the run status of the boiler? A pressure sensor maybe or a contact on the boiler panel that closes when the boiler starts? Thanks for the help.

It is probably referring to a relay contact in the boiler control logic where you can pick up the indication that the boiler is running.

Many boiler panels have lights to indicate various states such as purge, ignition, and then running. The same relay that lights that light could be used for your pump control indication.
