What is the best type of grease to use on mooring hooks? We are on the Mississippi and the grease that has been used in the past seems to just harden up after a short time. Does anyone have a recommendation of a good marine type/heavy duty grease? Much appreciated.

I just started using paper machine grease on my escort winches. It specifically advertises low speed high load corrosive environments. The viscosity is low as a NLGI 1.5 instead of a 2 but it leaves a nice film that prevents surface corrosion. It has showed no signs of hardening. The grease is Mobil 460 PM where we previously used Mobil XHP 222.
