Dear friends,

Could you tell me the difference between a IP54 and IPW54. What "W" means.
Sorry but I am a Mechanic and need this information
Thanks

IP54 is:

The first digit means protection from a solid -- Complete protection against contact with live or moving parts. Protection against harmful deposits of dust.

The second digit means protection from a liquid -- Protection from splashing in any direction.

The "w" I'm not that familiar with. You can check out their website though:

"W" is for weatherprotection. Technically, it should be IP54W but it's probably recognizable either way. NEMA MG1 and IEC 34-5 have the details of what may be required to accomplish weatherprotection but the intent is to reduce the ingress of rain, snow and airborne particles into electrical parts.

Regards.. kv

Kverspoor is correct. I verified it from my counterpart in Australia...You don't see that much in the NEMA world.

IP54 is similar to TEAAC, TEFC, TEWAC, AND TEPV. The "w" means weather protection....that's what I was told.

Hope this helps more.
