Motor nameplate torque.

I just received a 3ph gear motor.

It has European roots.

On the motor's plate:

Rated at 0.25kW (so it must be 1/3hp)
125rpm @ 50Hz
158rpm @ 60Hz
nm = 10.15

So tell me about this torque. Is that what the gear box is rated for? So at 158 I'm getting more hp?

Or does the nm have to be reduced at the higher rpm?

Yes Gunnar it has that too. It's the usual V/Hz ratio. It's not in front of me so I don't recall exactly. Is that pertinent to this question?

Somewhere in the dim archives is a FAQ concerning 50Hz/60Hz conversions.

Another way to think of this is:
New voltage = Old voltage x 50/60
New speed = Old speed x 50/60
New Horsepower = Old horsepower x 50/60
Note: This would instead be 60/50 for a 50 to 60 Hz conversion.

The torque is mostly dependant on the current. Maximum torque and maximum current are about the same at 50 Hz and 60 Hz.

So Bill you're saying this motor is 60/50 x 0.25kW motor now.
Same torque, higher speed, more hp.

Yes Keith, very pertinent.

If the voltages were the same, then you would be in constant horsepower. But if you have a constant V/f ratio, then you are in constant torque - which means more HP at 60 Hz. As Bill already said. I am wtching your video crreping out of my house. The A in ADSL is really annoying...

Yeah I was gonna say pumping out 50MB on any domestic link is S L O W.

It would take me about 60 minutes. Then add all the packaging!

Hey wait!! I doubt I can even accept 50MB!! Most mail will only ingest 10 or 20MB.

You need to put it on some file hoster service.

And why are you sending it to San Diego? Isn't that in another country from the one I'm in?

Hey guys, talking VFDs I just came back from looking at a 1,000 HP MV unit made in China, quite impressive. Consisted of about 12 identical 400V single phase modules. They claimed it has no harmonic issues and can be used with a regular motor and cables. Available to 8,800 HP in the 11 KV version.
Free lunch and beer was the feature I really liked.
