We have new Project for Which motor Solo run test done & motors failed on high bearing temperature. Is there any standard which asks some strict compliance before going ahead again for Solo run test. Definitely the issue of high bearing temperature to be resolved.

Best regards

If these are Babbitt bearings, did you use turning gear or roll the motors manually to bring up oil into the bearings before starting?
If these are ball or roller bearing motors, has a mechanic over greased the bearings prior to starting?
If so, I may have met that mechanic on another project. He is a slow learner. grin

What type of motors, AC or DC? What kind of bearings, white metal or anti-friction? What were the bearing temperatures reached and after how long in no-load run? Was the cooling fan externally driven or shaft mounted?

Bearing temps show an increasing trend in the beginning and then stabilize after a few hours of run.

What temperature increase did you measure? How? Built-in transducer or external? After how long time? Any sounds from the bearing? What speed was the motor running at?

Half full - Half empty? I don't mind. It's what in it that counts.

rajendrarohra1978,
Is there any doctor who guarantee you the person comes for the check up shall be declared as fir? If that is the case why the person needs the medical check up?

By the same token, if you know the standard ensures the motor is in good condition, you need not go for the solo run.

Solo run is the part of the quality delivery assurance process. Don't forget these are the electro-mechanical equipments, where the problems can arise at any point of time. Your effort at site should be to resolve such issues.

Also give some details of the motor such as criticality, rating, voltage, application, the condition of storage prior to installation, temperature rise, test duration, DE or NDE bearing, type of bearing etc. Otherwise, the experts are only in shooting in the dark. I have a due respect for the people who are trying to support even with the skeletal information.

eg. if it is small 5HP water pump motor, the motor can be shifted to the nearby motor repair shop and replaced the bearing easily. If it is a 4MW, 11kV, Ex'd' motor, an entirely different approach is required.
