When calculating flat circular plates of constant thickness as shown by Roark, which case is used for shock absorber shim stacks?
1. Uniform Load - Outer edge free, inner edge simply supported.
2. Uniform Load - Outer edge free, inner edge fixed.
3. Linearly Increasing Load - Outer edge free, inner edge simply supported.
4. Linearly Increasing Load - Outer edge free, inner edge fixed.
5. Parabolically Increasing Load - Outer edge free, inner edge simply supported.
6. Parabolically Increasing Load - Outer edge free, inner edge fixed.

I cannot determine which to use due to clamp force when assembled, effects of friction with adjacent shims and the effect of the top plate (washer).

Any help would be appreciated.

Did you google search the site. Motor cycle shock shim stacks have been discussed in detail previously.

I don't want to come right out and say you're incorrect. I have searched extensively for this information and no one address my question directly. Since your post I searched again, although their are many interesting posts they do not answer my specific question.

As it was some time ago, I do not remember if the threads answered your specific question. I do remember there was a lot of in depth detail about setting up forks and shock shim stacks and presumed it would be of interest. Sorry I bothered.

Many new members here do ask questions without doing their homework first, only to be directed to the already existing answer. It does not do their credibility any good if that turns out to be the case. We are here to explore, not rehash.

The internal google search feature works a lot better than the non google one.

Shim stacks are not something I really know about, so if you have already found the existing threads to be no help, I cannot help further.

Getting snooty with someone giving you good advice based on your question won't encourage more replies.
