I'm trying to move a part body from one component to another within a product, but I get an error message:

"Plane.1 Element Face.14 has no associated geometry. Recreate the geometry."

I understand the message but how do I find "face.14" and the geometry which needs to be recreated?

Another related question is why can't I project geometry from a sketch in one component to a sketch in a different component?

I can attach the product file if that would be of use in solving the problem.

Thanks.

Pedro - for your related question - you will have to copy the sketch from component A to component B - then project the necessary data.

For your first problem - the sketch planes are not in the new part, thus the new part body has lost the reference to the creation planes.
Are you making an exact copy of this component?
There are a couple of ways to tackle this problem, but I need to know your end result.

Derek,

Thanks for getting back to me.

Yes, I want to make an exact copy of this component and then delete the original. I want the sketches to still be editable if possible.

Regarding projecting geometry between components--is there a way to set up a project so that I can project sketches form one componenet to another without copying the sketches to the component? I'm using the Gerry Technologies (Digital Project)version of Catia (Catia v 5.15) for architectural and engineering design and it would be helpful of I could project geometry between components.

Also regarding planes--Can I associate a sketch to a plane (in this case a surface) which is outside the current component? I have done just that with a sketch which is associated to an external reference and the color of the surface I'm referencing has changed to yellow. What does that mean?

Thanks for the help.

Pedro

Use power copy then, when you get the first window that show external references from the object you picked, you can pick at the references to add them in the power copy and finally you will get just the x y z plane or something that you can identify and use in an other empty part
