Question. I have some data from a supplier that is in a old start part. I want to move or copy some or all of the data from old start part to new start part.
Any techniques are gratefully taken. Texaspete

If the new part does not exist yet, make it using the old start part as a template.

If it does, and you want to copy parameters, then make a dummy assembly with both old and new parts and just create and copy the parameters from the column entries in the Model Tree.

What Pro/E command are you thinking of. External>copy>geometry, or copy>geometry, or published Geometry. The command mentioned above do not give the user the "Redefine feature" ablilities. I am looking to copy geometry into the new model and not create external references. Texaspete

Sorry, from your first question, it seemed that you wanted to copy data, like text or parameters.

To copy geometry, it all depends on how different your new part will be from the original. Are you copying the complete part over (no references), or just want to copy a few features (use UDF's). I need more details.

I have an existing part that is in a old start part setup. They want me to move / copy the data into their new start part. In CATIA - for Chrysler we can "merge" existing data into new start part of their even though the old data comes from Mitsubishi. In pro/E I don't know how to copy existing data into new start model. Example I have a customer using WF2 that I am sending a quote too. I am using an existing tail lamp housing that I want to build new lens to. But in my proposal I have to use their standard start part. My goal is to copy geometry only into their start part and create "parameter relation" later.
I Hope this helps. Texaspete

Can't you just save the old start part in WF2 open the old part and then save it and you should get all the parameters saved in the new version. If you want to copy features use Copy from Dif Version if still possible in WF.

I was playing around with Feature>copy>new references>from different model> Independent. These are my results - It copied features (sequential features) with no problem. ex. In part0002.prt, I copied the first 3 datum planes and 8 2d datum curves into prt0003.prt remember these are all sequential. In prt0003.prt there was no merge showing, just features. These features were redefinable, I could modify any features; every thing look like I had created the features as normal. All I have to do was define one sketch plane - it must have been the first datum curve because the 7 remaining curves used the same datum plane to sketch on. I will add to this post as I learn more.
