Dear All,

I'm working on a project where I have a composite model which includes PCOMP elements in combination with CQUAD4 mesh. The PCOMP element defines the lay-up referring to MAT8 material properties. When I run a linear static SOL 101 I find really small value's for stress and strain in the XZ direction for all layers (inter laminar).

When I check the manual it seems there would be some possibility to compute those values with PCOMP elements. Or are 3D elements required?
Or is a SOL 400 required? I don't have that license so I cannot check it.

Thank you in advance!

Kind regards,

HTim

For composite shell elements Nastran will calculate through-thickness shear distributions from basic engineering theory of bending considerations (usually VQ/Ib in American terms or SAy_bar/I in British) and applied shear V and S respectively. Low shear stresses implies low applied shear forces.

As ever, what do your hand calculations for shear show? What is the average shear stress present?
