OK - any assistance with importing excel files into MSj?

I would like to be able to click on the pipe element that is on our GIS and be able to see the data about that pipe (and add to the data once it is loaded in to MS.

Currently the data is on an excel sheet, I would rather not type it over.

Thanks for the mentoring -

Drew,
There are two steps to solve your problem.
1. Convert you excel table to MS Access database which is supported by MS/J. You may write a small program to do that in case Get external Database->import->Excel is not working. Save this databse and create ODBC linkage to it.

2. Now you can link MS/J Element to database. Refer the user manual on how to do that.

Hope it will get you one step ahead.

Thank you Flame,

I got a little lost with the ODBC linkage....and
user manual - what user manual? Maybe I am to young for Bentley to toss a copy my way.

Does the excel or access file need to be kept in one file location for MSj to use?

Thanks,
Drew

AndrewEIT,

Please read my post somewhere in these pages on how to import MS Excel files into Microstation.

It is done by first saving your Excel file as a *.csv file, and then using the "table" macros file in Utilities|Macros to import the *.csv.

It worked quite well for me. Please let me know if it works for you, too.

Good luck.
