I have recently started using NX6 after migrating from NX4 prior to that I have used NX2 & UG18.

I have used the multibend bracket functionally for years as a very quick method to design brackets in the context of a live design. I did this by:-

1. Geometry wave linking the required surfaces into my bracket part.
2. These faces are then used as the faces of the bend planes of the bracket.
3. Thus allowing NX to calculate the bend lines,
4. All I then needed to do was to define the shape of the bracket using the sketch within the command.

Ie:- define a fully parameterised, assembly associative bracket in minutes.

Upon trying this in NX6, I get a warning message that this command will be retired soon, and to start using the sheet metal application. This is fine, but what command set am I supposed to use to obtain the same level of functionality?

Try using...

Insert -> Bend -> Sheet Metal from Solid...

Note that despite the name of the function, it works just as well if you're selecting faces of WAVE-linked sheet bodies.

Hi John,

I was kind of hoping that it would you who would post back.

I did try what you suggested however; because the two geometry wave linked faces do not intersect. There is no edge to select for the position of the bend. Even by performing a curve projection to define the corner of the bend, because this is a curve and not an edge, it’s not selectable.

Could I please ask you a big favour? Could you check within Siemens the exact meaning of the warning message?

Is 'Multibend Bracket' being retired from NX altogether, or is only being retired from the modelling application and will continue to be available in the sheet metal application in the next revision of NX.

I guess this will be one of the things I will be asking / checking for if I come beta testing again this year.

Cheers,

Can you provide a simple example of something which works for 'Multibend Bracket' but which won't for 'Sheet Metal from Solid'?

Hi John,

I have created a very simple example of an assembly, and how we then define a sheet metal baracket to support the clip.

This bracket has been defined using the multibend bracket functionality, so this bracket took about 2 minutes to create. I have not been able to replicate this workflow using any onther caommand sets within the sheet metal application.

I have done this in NX6.
