Good day! Just wondering if any of you encountered or have designed an irregular shaped water tank/reservoir.
I've been going at it for weeks and I have been really trying hard to figure out if using the Staad program would eventually help me solve for the bending moments, Mx and My as well as Mxy.
The tank is not in the global axis and falls along the local axis. I tried running the tank using the Staad program and after getting the values of Mx, My and Mxy, I used the Wood and Armer Equation to determine the demand given by the water tank. Which gave me around 18000 kN-m highest from its moment from one plate... I rotated the actual model so that one-side would fall in the global axis and re-run the program again and the values didn't change. So I began researching for an irregular shaped tank design from the internet and how it was approached but with little luck, I never got any reliable sources and links.
So I am posting here to get any information with regards to Water tanks/Reservoirs having an irregular shape as well. I am thinking of using the tables of PCA but its for Rectangular and Circular Tanks.
I've been reading along the Bentley thread as well and it discussed as to having inclined plates are not solved by the program and should be solved manually.
Any idea or based codes that would eventually help me run this and get believable results would be of great help when handling irregular shaped tanks.
