Using Catia V5R19, Service Pack 8, Build Number 19;

I would like to achieve the following;

Product 1, Part B mounts to Part A at location 1 for specimen 1
Product 2, Part B mounts to the same Part A at Location 2 for specimen 2

I need to locate mounting holes in Part A by means of “in-context” designing using the two products with different locations.

Can I do this without having to create copies of the parts?

Any response will be greatly appreciated!

Catia will only allow contextual design of a given part in exactly one context at a time. This is a general behavior of Catia. So short answer, no.

A way around would be to create the in-context links in Product 1 / Part A, then isolate them. Next create the in-context links in Product 2 / Part A. You'll be best off isolating those as well.

A second way would be to use an independent "skeleton" file, that drives the geometry of all the parts involved.

Hope that helps,
Mark

Isolated features won’t update if modifications are done. What I will do is place all of the parts in one file and separate them with scenes. The product tree will become large & messy, but I think it’s an easy way to avoid problems.
