Hi everyone,

I'm looking at a very large diameter pipe diameter installation (up to 144") which requires bolting. I'm trying to understand the usage of a hydraulic torque wrench system, and I'm wondering if you can use multiples of these tools off of the same pump while still getting each tool to torque the nut to the proper pressure.

Call the maker. Give him your bolt size and number of users. Head diameter doesn't matter: Distacne from the pump to the drivers is important.

Do you really want to be torquing more than ONE bolt at a time?

If you don't alternate bolts/studs in the proper sequence (and any pattern of more than two at a time is very, very hard to keep tightening evenly across the "star"!) your head will be dangerously loose.

Yes, if the total system have the capacity and are equipped to handle it.

How to find out: each single tool will require a relatively constant pressure, and a given flow of oil between the given allowable pressure variation limits measured at the tool operation point (to overcome loss in pipeline length comes into this as an adder).

Total max capacity: max number of tooling points in use at the same time, times max capacity utilized at each tooling point. The oil accumulator and pump must be able to supply at this pressure limits and rate.

If multi-tooling is advisable or practical is another question....

There are hydraulic bolt stretching systems that can do any number of bolts at one time. makes for a very evenly tightened flange.
A turning torque system would be quite cumbersome if you were to do multiples.. in my opinion
