What type of motor is in a typical multispeed household fan?

Google found me lots of sites to buy one, but I can't seem to find any technical articles.

For low power fans, it is usually a shaded pole motor with different taps on the winding producing different V/Hz and thus different slips. Works on fans with square torque characteristics.
