Hi folks,

Can anyone point me in the direction of the temperature rating for 11/20/33kV cable terminations?

Is this 90 degrees as per the cable conductor?

According to IEC 60502-4 /2005 Test requirements on accessories for cables with rated voltages from 6 kV (Um = 7,2 kV) up to 30 kV (Um = 36 kV)
4 Types of accessory
The accessories covered by this standard are listed below:
– indoor and outdoor terminations of all designs, including terminal boxes;
– straight joints, branch joints and stop ends of all designs, suitable for use underground or
in air;
– screened or unscreened plug-in type or bolted-type separable connectors
5.2 Maximum conductor temperatures
The accessories shall be suitable for use on cables having the conductor temperatures specified in 4.2 of IEC 60502-2 for normal operation.
The maximum conductor temperatures of the cables under short-circuit conditions are given in Table 3 of IEC 60502-2.
Table 3 – Maximum conductor temperatures for different types of insulating compound
PVC 70 normal 160 short-circuit up to 300 sqr.mm and 140 for above
XLPE 90 normal 250 short-circuit

7anoter4,

Amazing thanks for this, this is what I was looking for.

I know at LV, in domestic scenarios there are challenges around terminal ratings, when 90C cable is used. Was looking for the reference at HV, much appreciated.
