My impact object is not moving!

I am simulating an impact of a bone versus a rigid surface (bumper of a car).

I have given the rigid surface a velocity predefined field of 1100 mm/s in the direction wanted.
I have also given it a boundary condition so that it would only move in the direction prescribed.

However it is not moving!
any suggestions?

Chooga,

I'm also in the process of simulating an Impact problem similar to yours and had come across this problem. I don't remember exactly what I changed but it had to do with the definition of the reference point on the body and assigning it a mass. Also, make sure that the other BC's in the BC field are prescribed correctly. The error is probably with these fields.

My guess based on your limited description is that you need to apply the velocity to the reference point. I hope this helps.

A few things to check is that you have a mass and inertias attached to the reference point of the body so Abaqus can properly calculate contact and that you are applying the velocity to the reference point of the rigid body only. The RP controls the movement of the body, so if you apply a velocity or acceleration to the nodes of the body Abaqus just plain ignores it.
