NACE compliant pressure vessels vs. NACE compliance pressure piping

Hello,

When ensuring pressure piping (as in ASME B31.3, which I'm a bit more familiar with) is NACE compliant, some or a combination of the following can be done:
1. Select soft enough material and ensure welding procedure is NACE qualified by hardness testing, etc.
2. Or PWHT the weld
3. Or (most expensive) hardness test the field welds.

My question is, is it the same process of making a separator (pressure vessel- which I"m not very familiar with, possibly governed by ASME Section VIII, Div 1 or 2) NACE compliant? or is PHWT required no matter what?

Thank you.

As much as possible, do it right the first time...

Your phrase "NACE Compliant" has no meaning ....

You must be specific.... Define practice, chapter and verse

It is the equipment user's responsibility to select materials suitable for the intended service.

Item 2 will not cure a parent material hardness that is outside of the requirements when localised PWHT is performed.

Item 3 is an 'AND' option, not 'OR,' unless specifically agreed by the end user.

In the absence of a specific end user directive, the need for PWHT is governed in the first instance by the pressure vessel code, and secondly by having to meet the requirements of NACE MR0175 (assuming that is the 'NACE' being referred to).

NACE is the material standard and applies to equipment and piping in the sour service environment. As an end-user, you need to select the proper material for the services as defined in the NACE Standard.
