Nameplate units

We have a customer that wants the MAWP on the nameplate in kg/cm2. Is this acceptable by the code? can we show MAWP in psi and kg/cm2 in parenthesis? or is only kPa allowed in parenthesis?

pdeng,
per paragraph UG-115(b), one system of measurement must be used consistently for all documentation and marking of vessels. In your case I would use U.S. customary units and show kg/cm2 in parentheses, check with your AI first. UG-115 and UG-116 are the minimum standard for marking, no restraints on adding additional information, see Fig. Ug-118 general note.

If your stamping metric units then you should use kPa for pressure.

If the vessel is already built---why not attach a 2nd nameplate with the information as requested,no U stamp.

The general note of Fig. 118 is explicit in saying that information within parentheses is not part of the required marking which leaves it pretty open as to what information is placed there, be it bar, kg/cm2, etc..
