NC Verify work flow...

Over the years I've never really concerned myself with assigning a workpiece with the MCS. I always had Vericut for verification. I'd just select the part features required for each operation. The past 2 years, I've not had access to Vericut. So, now I rely totally on using NC Verify. The issue is that many times I need to add or remove specific surfaces to get the toolpath I want. Many times I need to add part geometry to the existing workpiece for a certain cut. For that I select only the mcs and not the assigned workpiece so I can "pick and choose" surfaces. As you know, this now breaks the link for a complete NC verify simulation unless I run every operation prior.

How do others approach this issue?

You can have multiple Workpiece objects.

Have the MCS at the top of the geometry tree, then a workpiece with the blank only, under that you can have multiple workpiece objects with diferent part geometry, or select the geometry in the operations.

When you verify the tool paths thay will all use the same blank to show the material removal.

Just a follow up. As expected, while I can create multiple workpieces under the MCS, you still will not get proper in-process verification of just that one operation unless you run all the prior operations first. So problem still is, I still need to run all operations prior because of the multiple workpieces. Perhaps I'm missing something?

With regards to my previous post.
After I thought some more, I don't think it will work.

I do not think the multiple workpiece idea will work for you.
In my opinion, your best bet is to have your MCS, as usual.
Have a workpiece as a child of the MCS but only select the blank geometry. Leave the part and check unselected.

All you op's will go under the blank only workpiece and you will be required to select the part geo for each operation.

Thats how I would approach it.

All that being said, I have exactly the same situation you described and my solution is to simply never verify that op unless it's a part of the whole.

one more idea might be to try using an In Process Workpiece as a blank, if it's available for your operation

Yes, I'm using the blank only now as the workpiece with no part. The part is one of those odd birds that requires me to whittle away into various odd pockets at several axis vectors. I need to see exactly what each one has left for the next op as I'm using tiny endmills in inconel. Just the usual stuff! <g>
