I am getting started on a project for NCDOT and I haven't been able to locate any guidance on their site regarding structural engineering software. Does anyone know if they require specific programs for different structures (p/s conc, steel, culverts, etc.)? Is there a publication or link that shows the list?

I looked as well and didn't see anything. The safest thing to do is ask them. Some states are more particular than others. PennDoT for instance has a number of proprietary programs that must be used.

Thanks for the reply bridgebuster. Asking them will be the last resort if I can't find any documentation so that they don't see our lack of NCDOT experience.

They probably accept the commonly available software - MDX, Merlin Dash, ConSpan, RC Pier, etc. I had a colleague who ran our Raleigh office some years back; he used these as did my office. Unfortunately I've lost touch with him.

Here's a suggestion: Red flag this post and repost it in the bridge engineering forum. You might get a better response.

you may ask some of your colleagues or friends that work at other consultants. I think as engineers we tend to help esch other out even if they are the competition. If that isn't a resource, you can try discussing with local members of the ASCE Chapter over a beer.
