We have installed new piping for natural gas service. The QA/QC have advised its 100% RT followed by hydrostatic test. But we want to have the hydrostatic test first because the situation is such that we can save some time if we do the hydrostatic test first. Does code place some restriction on the order of NDE??

hydro is a proof test that usually has to be done after all fabrication.

if you hydro then RT & repairs are needed then you will have to hydro again.

however, you can hydro as many times as you like but the final hydro is usually documented as proof of the integrity of the system.

Thank you for replying. But is there any reference mentioning the same.

What is your code of construction for the piping (B31.8)? Read it.
