I am going to school now for welding engineering and i was wondering what NDT/NDE tickets i should write for and which tickets would bring me the highest paying salary. Also i would like to know the average rate of pay for CWB level 1 inspectors and the rate of pay for RT,UT,etc. I know up here in alberta ,canada they pay good but i never here any number. Please someone write back if they have any info on this or even QA/QC jobs and what tickets i would need to work at that.

Thanks,Travis

Hi Travis

It doesnt sound as if you are aiming to be a degree-qualified welding engineer otherwise you would only need an appreciation of weld inspection and NDE techniques rather than qualifications

Who will pay for your courses and exams? With NDE you really need to be multi-disciplined with at least one volumetric (RT or UT) and one surface method qualification (MT or PT), but preferably more. As a CWI you only need the one ticket. So if you are footing the bill then go for the CWI first, earn some money, gain on-site experience and then think about if you want the expense of multi-NDE tickets. If you get the courses/exams for free then go for the lot.

Good luck

littlebayman,

I realize that the certificates (CWI or any others) are the requirement in most of companies. However, please do not stick too much with these certificates.

I hope to see your related post in "ASTM (testing materials)Code Issues" for the next time...
