Hello all,

I am forming a steel piece and using a tighter radius than recommended by supplier. I want to be sure that it does not forms any crack. Apart from visual inspection what other method (NDT) I can use to be sure no crack formation? Also what side (Inner or outer) is more prone to crack?

Cracking will occur on the side in tension; which would be the outside bend. It will be surface connected so MT / PT would be sufficient. You could consider angle beam UT if a critical application.

magnetic particle or wet fluorescent particle testing can detect these types of surface cracks.

Agreed, any of the surface nondestructive testing (NDT) methods like wet fluorescent magnetic particle (WFMT) or Liquid Penetrant testing (PT) would suffice. However, you should have the NDT performed by a qualified NDT orgainzation, otherwise attempting to do this in-house could result in missed surface indications.
