I am an employee of a company that designs, builds, and performs testing on large LPG/LNG pumps. I am trying to classify the hazarous areas around the test stand, the storage tanks and the transfer area, but am having trouble finding solid references. The NEC says in reference to Class I, Division II locations; "The classification usually includes locations where volatile flammable liquids or flammable gases or vapors are used but that in the judgement of the authority having jurisdiction, would become hazardous only in case of an accident or of some unusual operating condition." -- This brings to question, "Who is the local authority?!?!?!". I have tried the fire marshall for the city, and the city inspectors and they don't want to provide any input. Help anybody????
