When I was writing my report I thought to myself why would my supervisor want me to perform dft on wave against time data.

The model for my analysis is a simple beam subject to axial loading and fixed at point node. All other surfaces apart from loading surface are supported by rollers.

I have two questions:

a) I know what fourier transform is, however I am trying to get the intuition for why I would even need it to study wave across the beam?

b) Does it make sense for the amplitude to be higher than the maximum amplitude of the wave after application of matlab dft?

I am using matlab to do fft for me in this report.
