Need basic info about cutting conditions

Hi there,
Could anyone help me with a short tutorial about the basics of laser cutting? Operating the machine (Mazak mkII 2.5 kw) and making nestings are no problem but I need additional information about the parameters and settings to get smoother cuts. With other words: when do I change what? What does duty do? And the frequency? If I would know those kind of things I can experiment with those settings. Any help would be appreciated!
