Need Belleville washer advice

Hello all,

We are in the process of manufacturing rifle actions. The firing pin of said actions is driven by a belleville washer stack, rather than the typical helical spring.

We are looking for belleville washers in titanium, but are having some trouble finding them. Any ideas?

Size: 6,2 x 12,5 x 0,5mm free length 0,85mm load approx 298N

We use 31-33 washers per stack.

You will get very low load from Ti, it has a low modulus. Most Ti also has poor fatigue life as well.

0.85mm height compared to 0.5 mm thick gives h/t = 1.7 and this makes an unstable belleville. Most standard bellevilles have h/t << 1. Therefore, if you stack them you may get an erratic behavior. Are you stacking them in parallel or in series or both?
 
As EdStainless says, Ti is generally not too brilliant as a spring. However, Ti-38-6-44 to AMS 4958 is a spring grade. Don't know how it would behave as a belleville.

Without commenting on the appropriateness of this particular belleville spring design, titanium can be a great spring material, capable of mass savings of 50% or more when compared to ferrous materials while achieving adequate fatigue resistance. I would contact Renton Coil Spring about your requirements (they do flat/belleville springs as well):

 
If you stack Ti bellevilles in ?series? they nest toghether and endup with large amounts of surface rubbing on each other. Ti galls easily and this could bery quickly lead ot a stuck firing pin, or failure of components in the spring stack.
