need better design / process in settling tank or precipitator

am having problem in our current setup for our settling tank, we use a reservoir an 8 ft deep by 2ft by 3 ft wide, but still not enough, particles still flow. need suggestion on better design. thanks.

sorry, may have chosen the wrong forum. the purpose of the tank is to provide a safe environment in our compound. used to let the calcium carbide precipitate. can you direct me to the correct forum. thank you.
 
Check out The Perry Chemical Engineering Handbook and there s/b a section dealing with particles settling time being a function of particle size, viscocity of liquid bath, velocity of media flow,and other parameters.
