Hi
I need to know if any guidelines provided by ASME Sec.VIII Div.1 for below cases,

Case-1
If wrong opening happened anyhow (opening more then 100 mm) cylindrical shell, can we do patch welding as per Code ?

Case-2
Asme code allowing maximum 60 mm dia spin hole for thickness more then 10 mm case-2 diameter is more then what to do.

I need to resolve this NCRs with respect to ASME Code guidelines.

kp-chem, not much in Code specifically applies to these situations, your case (1) is quite common. See UW-38 and especially UG-78.

Common fix in carbon and austenitic stainless steels is to, with agreement of the parties, full-penetration weld a plug in place, full RT, PWHT if needed. Like it never happened :)

EDIT: Approved / qualified procedures are required.

Regards,

Mike

The problem with sloppy work is that the supply FAR EXCEEDS the demand

Hopefully you have the drop from the original cut out. Use it for the repair. Full penetration weld is required.

Thanks Mike for the reply

Hey I m looking to PCC-2 for repair work for such kind of issue , but the question is ' can I use PCC-2 for repair work because didn't find any reference for PCC-2 in Section VIII Div.1.

You can find a reference to ASME PCC-2:2018 in Table U-3 and in ENDNOTE101.

ASME.BPVC.VIII.1 scope is for new equipment, so I am not sure if ASME PCC-2 is directly applicable (it's scope specifies it is for equipement already in service).

But it may give you hints to repair beyond the ASME.BPVC.VIII.1 rules, and ASME.BPVC.II.A specifications provisions (as stated by SntMan and weldstan).

best regards,
