Hi I am trying to export a solid in NX to an STP file so that I can use it in CATIA or MASTERCAM. However when I convert the NX file to STP and open it in CATIA, the solid was turned into hundreds of surfaces and some surfaces are missing.

Is there any setting that I need to adjust in order to properly convert a solid from NX to another CAD system?

Please see the pictures for references. Frist pic is the stp model generated from NX 12.0, 2nd pic is the same STP open in CATIA V5R21

Thanks very much.

Never used Catia before, but have you tried exporting other file-types from NX?

I would just export every available type and see if Catia can read any of them.

Also, I noticed that you don't have any history on the model in NX, indicating that it wasn't made in NX. Might it be possible that the part file is damaged in the first place? It might be possible to sow together (Read: Repair) a surface model to a solid in NX, but first you have to know what the problem is.

Sorry I couldn't help more.

It seam's that the solid is not originated
from NX.

I think its originated from a solidworks

I realize that you ask for a STEP file; but have you tried the File -> Export -> CatiaV5 ?
It is at the very bottom of the export list when it is brought up.

Examine your NX file to make sure its "water tight" Use the Examine Geometry command
CHeck the SET ALL option.
Set your selection filter to Solid body, select the object you want to check.

if all is well, then file export Step AP214

ON the Catia side, you might have to alter your import settings to make sure it brings it in as a solid, or tries to "heal it"
It's been awhile since I've had access to a Catia seat. When we upgraded to AS/DS licensing it came with Catia v5 in/out so we let it go
