All of the equipment on one of our film casting lines was designed and built by a Japanese machine builder. One component needs some restructuring and the builder has told us the material is ANP-79 (I'm not sure if there is a hyphen, space or nothing before the 79). Can anyone tell me what the alloy components are and/or the physical properties? I believe it to be an aluminum or magnesium alloy and has a black finish, maybe hard coat anodize. Any help will be appriciated.

Thanks doct9960 for pointing me in the right direction. It looks to me to be 7075-T651. You deserve a star for the quick and helpful response.

The alloy is actually 7022, which isn't used in the US (not listed in ASTM B209).
aka DIN 3.4345 (AlZnMgCu0,5).

Also produced by ThyssenKrupp in Thailand, see AA 7022-T651 data:

Note that properties are ~identical to ANP79 from Namekawa. Seems to only be produced to the T651 temper (to minimize SCC no doubt), so that minimizes guesswork.

Can find more info by searching on aluminum 3.4345 .

Dis the SCC comment. T7351 should be better vs. corrosion; T651 for strength.

Using the keyword aluminium instead of aluminum will result in more hits since this is how the Europeans spell it.

Aluminium is the English (UK), German, French, Dutch and Swedish word for the element with atomic number 13. Whether or not it is a trademark is irrelevant.

Cory
