Hello,

I know this is a Hard question to answer due to the amount of different adhesives available but It seems that the one iam looking for cant even be found when searching for simple key words. At least for me i can't find it.

Here is basically the run down. I work on laser and laser optics. I need an adhesive "UV curuable or UV curable + Heat preferable" to hold my optics in place that cures fast and during curing it doesn't move/shrink and pull the optic with it"This is a problem only for small very small optics". Most of the work is glass to metal, metal to metal or glass to glass.

I purchase several UV adhesive to try and for the most part all are clear in color. I find it very hard to use clear as i cant really see the amount coming out before sometimes its to late and too much has come out.

So knowing some of the laser modules ive worked on over the years i noticed they use a Blue color adhesive or UV adhesive or its UV + heat cure.

So i went searching for Blue color UV adhesive and only came across a couple which are clearly not the same. One from Norland Optics and the other from CRL. But the blue for Norland is more purple like and the CRL again is more purple like and leave a bad die residue after cure and its very thin.

The Blue iam looking for is bellow. Its very thick it appears like. Do anyone of you have any good leads for me to try out and order.

The reason i want to get the same adhesive also is so that it matching within the laser to keep everything uniform.

Ive seen this adhesive in many laser ive worked on, But i just cant seem to find what it is.

Iam hoping you guys and gals could help me out here.

For ultra-small components you might look at 'die attach adhesives' in Google. These are used in the electronics world to attach bare silicon chips to ceramic substrates. Many are thermal cure epoxies and I'm not sure if they are fast enough - define 'fast' - but they have very low outgassing and low residue.

The market will have moved on a lot since I was in that industry, but look for Threebond and AI Technology as a couple of specialists alongside the usual susupects like Dow and Henkel. Can't remember many others - it has been a long time.

What iam looking for is whats in my image and was hoping someone might know of the color UV or Colored Adhesive iam looking for.

I have several proper UV adhesive that i use for my optics and laser which is not the problem the problem is iam looking for that Blue colored one.

I was hoping my picture of the Blue would catch someones eye and remembers it or knows of places where to buy color adhesive in Blue in which i can try.

As far as "Define Fast". UV Cure Fast. Like 2-5 seconds etc.

let me know if you have anymore question you would like me to answer.

Basically the bottom line is iam looking for that Blue Adhesive/UV Adhesive/Heat cure Adhesive. "Iam not sure what it is"

Iam just at a Dead end and if i cant find help iam pretty much out of luck finding it.

Thanks for your help in advance.

Are you certain this is a UV cure type, or just hoping it is?

If it is intended as a thermally conductive material - correct? - then Aavid's Ther-o-bond 1600 epoxy looks like a possibility. It does not meet your cure time requirement.

Is there any significance of the colour blue?

I cant be 100% certain but my better guess would say it has to be. I thinks its both UV and Heat cured.

With optics that have to be set in alignment i dont see how anything but uv adhesive could be used. Anything else you would be stuck holding it in place until the adhesive sets.

Another thing that i forgot to mention is this blue adhesive that iam looking for is 10 years old. In other words it came out way back then.

So iam still hoping that someone might see this and remember it.

I guess its used to hold optics in place as well as conduct heat. I can see the also used it on the thermistors.

Aavid's Ther-o-bond 1600 Looks like a pretty good guess. Iam going to order some and i will report back. The blue looks very close in color.

seems it cures in about 1 hour at 65C. Which is possible to do without damaging anything within the laser.

The Only thing that makes me think its not it is when dealing with optics you need to have it set fast. If your off by even a fraction of a fraction you will be off alignment and the laser will not work or produce any light.
So i dont see how an only heat cure epoxy would work. But i will give it a try. First ill contact them to see what they say.

I will report back. Thank You.
