Hi,

(using SAP2000 v11)

I've applied an area section over a beam, on this area I'm applying an area LOAD (gravity) of 2 KN/m, After the Run analysis, I found no Reaction at each end of the beam. It seams that the area load is not transferd to the beam.

What am I missing ?

Ex: If the area is (4m by 0.5m) On this area I'm applying 2kN/m. The reaction at each end of the beam should be 8 kN.

How do you model such problem ?

if anyone has a demo, send me a copy to gasma1975@hotmail.com

Thx,

Adi,

Make sure that your area element is meshed/divided over the beam element. Shell type area element distributes loads to connecting joints, and membrane type area element distributes load along the length of the beams

Thx for the tip, I've defined my AREA as membrane, material Concrete 12 inch thick. Area load is UNIFORM to FRAME shell. 2kN/m. After the run analysis, The reaction in the beam (under the CONCRETE AREA) corresponding to the 2 kN/m is O.K. (as expected) BUT the concrete AREA selfweight is not considered by the analysis...why ?

thx

Check your load cases. Your DEAD case should default to a selfweight multiplier of 1 in order to automatically apply the concrete selfweight to the beam, but the selfweight multiplier must have 1, not zero, to do this. Is your area load assigned as part of your DEAD case, or as a separate load case?

I found the problem.

The area load was applied in ONE WAY direction only and the axes where not the same as the girders, this is why.

Applying a 2 Way area load or modifying the axes is the solution

... Assign-> area loads-> Uniform to frame (shell)
