Every gearbox that I've worked with in the past has been a reduction drive.

I haven't had the need (until now) to increase the RPM's from the motor shaft.

I need to move a screw (with a .2 lead) at the rate of 15 inches per second.

The Compumotor MPP1428Q41 meets my torque requirements if I can gear it up 1:3

Could I use the Boston Gear PL2142 Reduction Drive (3:1) in reverse to give me the 1:3 gear ratio?

Probably not. I'm not familiar with that particular drive however. You'll have to deal with very high torque requirements, substantial mechanical power loss etc..

Boston Gear will be able to tell you about the possibilities.
