I Need some praticals informations or links to learn more about a " super austenitic 6Mo steel " identified by :

1.4547 or F 44 mainly about :

- The effect of the sigma phase during the forging
- The effect of the sigma phase during the heat treatment
- Effect of the thickness : sigma phase , mechanical properties .....

Thanks in advance

Stan

Thanks metenger

Basic question !

The 44 number in the F44 grade is it related to the PERN value (Pitting Resistance Equivalent Number) ?

Stan;
Looks like the Grade could have been selected using the PREN, but I could not verify this information.

Just occurred to me, I would contact the technical folks at Outokumpu directly for the answer to your question and information for your original post. I have contacted Outokumpu before for some alloy information regarding FGD's that we were installing and they supplied excellent reference material, They should have similar information for your alloy, 254 SMO.

Great, thanks again Man !

Yes the alloy 254 SMO made by outokumpu is similair.

But i am afraid when i would to forge à large rod with diameter greater than 800 mm (slow colling ===> sigma phase)

I am not sure that the mechanical properties will show the same values like the plate produced by rolling with a small thickness.

Look at the Allegheny AL-6XN source book. They have transformation curves, and 6XN should be a bit worse than 254 since it has higher Mo levels.

On second thought, you are going to solution anneal right? Process annealing is not suitable for these grades.
