This was just dropped on my desk.

I know little about pressure vessels. I was asked to qualify a cylindrical negative pressure vessel in 5 minutes. What do I need to consider? Hoop stress I know, but how do I look at wall buckling? Or any other considerations.

-10psi, ambient temperature, thin-walled cylinder.

Hi,
it depends in witch step are you performing,
if you have to design pressure vessel to negative pressure, it means : external pressure , so you have internal (+) and external(-),
generaly we say designing to full vaccum it means: External pressure of 14.5 psi,
in this case you consider both pressure ( internal and external ), I don't know what is your internal pressure design pressure, your design Temperature, and dimensions of your vessel, give me all this and I show you how to determine material and calculate thiknesses .

please try to be clear what are you serching .

regards.
