Can anyone give me some information on how much of an increase will result from stacking neodymium magnets? Will it be as significant as a single magnet of comparable size? Thank you...sorry for my ignorance.

Assuming you are stacking the magnets on top of each other (so they are in attraction), the output of the stack will be higher than the magnets individually. The amount of increase depends on the size of the individual magnets. However, a stack of two magnets will not double the output, it'll work out to be less than 2x. Similarly, a stack of three magnets will have less than 3x the input of an individual magnet.

When stacked, neodymium magnets behave pretty much as a single solid magnet.

Mike, thank you very much for your reply.
I'm pretty sure I'm going to hurt myself putting my two 2"x2"x1" N50s together, though. :)

The gains depend on many factors, but generally you'll get bigger gains of B by increasing the cross sectional area than by increasing the thickness.

In cases where you're close to saturating any conductor (steel, usually) in the circuit or if you're dealing with a large airgap between poles, stacking can be of more help.

Like mentioned above, you won't likely see double strength for double thickness/area due to saturation and stray flux.

The previous answers stated that stacking two magnets will not generate 2x the flux of just one. I'm with you on that.

Could I ask for a precise answer to the question regarding the difference between one thick magnet and two of similar area but half the thickness stacked together? It's not the same question.

Thanks. (I'm so picky)
