Neplan users, Could you actually do more than HVDC transmission with converters in Neplan? I'd like to have a decent uncontrolled 6 pulse rectifier connected to a LV bus bar feeding a resistor.

b.t.w. Whats is the difference between simple and 3p-converters?

Neplan version: 5.2.4

Actually the DC components can only be used in HVDC systems.
I asked BCP many times to implement dc systems but I'm still waiting.

What kind of studies are you carrying out?
Maybe we could find an alternative solution.

Alex,

I am trying to model a sample network with generators, a couple of transformers, CBs and some DC and AC consumers.
(Load flow, short circuit mostly)

How about DIgSILENT? I am actually evaluating both to see which one is worth buying. Any idea how much they cost?

The load flow works also for dc systems even if batteries are not implemented.
Look:
1- open the HVDC example "multiterminal"
2- remove the inverters and Eq. grids in the bottom
3- add a DC load at a dc node
4- run LF

It works!

The short circuit is not implemented because is based on a IEC standard different from the EN60909. I've never tried the superposition method.

==================================

Neplan and DigSilent are direct competitors.
some years ago I bought Neplan because of the simplest user interface and because Digsi seemed to be heavier since based on a big database.
Both of them have bugs and both virtues.
I prefer Neplan and I have direct contacts with the producer.
They cost more or less the same, but it depends on the modules you are looking for.
Please contact your local seller.

Thanks for the tip.

How do you see where the error is actually from? For example when I run a simple self-made AC/AC converter I get the message:

...Start Analysis....
Iteration 1- Max. Mismatch at Equation: 43 = 1.#INF00e+000
Load Flow Calculation interrupted because of error.
...Assign Results....

No bus bar is red or nothing unusual can be seen in the whole system.

On the other side, I have used DIgSILENT PowerFactory for 4 years and it is great. Like anything it takes a some work up front, but DIgSILENT has excellent technical support and has regular updates (several per year). As far as bugs go, my experience has been different, I can't recall too many problem at all.

I've had a look at Neplan too and I'm not sure the two products are in the same ballpark.

I use Neplan since 1999 while one of our consultant uses Digsilent.
The GUI of Digs is more pretty but "heavier" than Neplan.

One of the advantages of Neplan is the automatic visualization of the regulator initialization. Digsi is very far from that!
On the other hand, Digsi implements also the EM transient up to some kHz (not useful for lightning!!) while neplan is still implementing Simpow of ABB.

with Neplan I can build a regulator for every component of the system, and digsi?
