Networked acoustic system

Not sure if this is the right place to post this... but I'm looking at putting together my own networked sound masking system in my office.

I want to be able to control different zones independently using loudspeakers and either my laptop or android tablet to control the sound levels in each zone. I checked out the system at logison.com and it looks great but if I can do it myself for cheaper I'd much rather go that route.

Any advice on which software I should get started with to accomplish this?

... Seriously, I'd start by looking at the source for the Network Audio System, NAS, in the Fedora or other repositories.
