Neural Net error during training

Hi there

I am actually interested in using a function which returns the error of a neural network at the first iteration of training. I know matlab plots a graph with the performance error but that doesn't fit to my case. I want to train different networks on different machines in an automatic way so I can't look all computers at the same time.
What I am really looking for is an if-statement which should look like that:

if(epoch=1)
1STITERROR = getPerformance(NN)
end

I had a look on the reference documentation of the neural network toolbox, but unfortunately i didn't find anything.
Will be obliged for any help
