Hello All,

As you know, a new Edition of the Code will be published at the 1st of July.
As part of my job I am the responsible for preforming Code calculations and FEAs.
I'm using ASME VIII-1 U-2(g) which allows the use of FEA (following to Man. App. 46).
And preforming FEA in accordance with ASME VIII-2 5.2.2.
Assuming there will be no changes in the upcoming Edition (No changes in ASME VIII-2 Part 5 nor in U-2(g)/MA 46) does my FEA reports need to be update to the new revision or I can still use them although they were made in accordance with the 2019 Edition?

For example – there is no need to preform new Proof Test with every new Code Edition, it is enough to demonstrate that the exist Proof Test is still valid.

Thank you

My recollection is that the code published in July becomes mandatory in January.

When submitting the 2021 analysis to the AI, the report can consist of the unchanged 2019 report with a new front page saying that all relevant code rules remain unchanged. Simply submitting the 2019 report wouldn't be good enough.

Customers may be fussier. Some will want a shiny new analysis report with only 2021 written on it.

@IdanPV, can you confirm whether PVP2020-21112 demonstrated technique and suggestions has been included in the new code (ASME Sec VIII Div. 2) for the elastic plastic method to check protection against collapse from buckling 5.4, Type 3 buckling?

Doodler3D - I can confirm that Part 5.4 was not updated in the 2021 Edition. It just didn't make its way through the Code Committees in time to make the 2021 Edition. The item to incorporate this method (it will completely replace paragraph 5.4) is currently at the main Section VIII Committee, and I expect it to pass prior to the next scheduled meeting. Then, it will be published in the 2023 Edition.

Once it passes, I will share the change to this community - the current methods are potentially unconservative and the new method (from PVP2020-21112) should be used in all cases.

Looks like a substantial leap forward for buckling design. Looking forward to seeing the detail.

i think you need consider the effecit of appendix 47.
