new brick veneer attached to existing cmu wall

I have an exisitng block wall (assume portions of wall are ungrouted) that the owner wants to cover with a brick veneer. Has anyone had any luck attaching brick ties to existing cmu? Are there any other ideas for supporting the brick veneer from the existing cmu?

you can download their catalog as several pdf's. they have several ties that can be used with anchors embedded into the face shell of a hollow CMU or grouted CMU.

How about using single angle (shelf angle) and expansion anchor into CMU. You can look into Simpson's catalog for the right anchoring system into ungrouted CMU.

You can also tapcon certain brick ties.

You didn't ask but make sure you have a good drain system. TEK Note 5-1B has details and tips on how to attach, drain and detail your veneer. I couldn't attach a link, but it's not too hard to find on-line.

I think scottie's suggestion of using tapcons is probably the best. If you're are careful with checking tension loads you might also be able to use a low-velocity powder-driven fastener, such as Ramset's Trakfast system. Hilti also has pdf's for use in cmu. They have values for attaching to hollow cmu. I have never heard of using this though, it's just an idea. Most masonry crews don't have a pdf system though they typically do have a hammer drill.
